IBM and Bull have a cooperative engineering and distribution agreement related to IBM's AIX 5LTM operating system and Power based technology that Bull markets as the Escala PL server family. This agreement has resulted in over 10 years of close collaboration and is set to continue.

This strategic relationship leverages the development and engineering capabilities of both companies, improving time-to-market and further advancing the acceptance of UNIX-based systems running Open Source and Linux applications on AIX.

AIX 5L is the industry's premier environment for building and managing UNIX and Open Source applications, giving customers a substantial advantage over fully-closed, proprietary systems.

Under the agreement, joint Bull and IBM engineering teams work on projects that include multiple applications workload management, Web-based system management, IP connectivity and reliability and availability features to maximize applications uptime. In addition, it extends to development projects for the Linux environment.
