In 1997, Bull and NEC created a joint-venture, 50% of which is owned by NEC and 50% by Bull. The common subsidiary of Bull and NEC Europe: “ Express Servers SAS ” includes the Express5800 server technical expertise (with Intel-based processors for Windows and Linux environments). The mission of this joint-venture is to develop the Express5800 offer competitiveness, define and launch new ranges based on Intel 32-bit architecture.

In beginning of 2003, once again, Bull and NEC decided to work closely together to define the Storage offer that will be proposed to customer in NovaSCale environment (NovaScale is the new range of servers, developed by Bull in cooperation with Intel , based on Intel IA64 bits architecture)
